I was talking with a parent explaining the idea behind the school and came up with a good way of stating what the driving force behind the school is about:
All students will be expected to participate, and do their best work. The difference comes in where, and how that work gets done. Do all students HAVE to be on the carpet to listen? Or could they sit at their desk, in a bean bag chair, on the floor, as long as they are still listening and participating, does it matter?
Do all students HAVE to write on paper? Or could they write on a white board, type on a chrome book, or an unlined paper?
This school is about working with students to help them reach their full potential.
We feel the answer to these questions is “no”. At Iris Valley students will be given options of how they want to show mastery of subject matter, while still being held to high standards.
